Many Chinese students choose to further their postgraduate studies at overseas universities. An obvious necessity is to have a competent ability in the language of the host country.

Typically, the teaching methods at foreign universities are very different from those in China. Also, students going to a foreign country can face a cultural shock that will take time to absorb.

Some foreign countries do have Chinese communities and these can be a great comfort to new arrivals.
