Foshan’s 12345 Hotline has seen a surge in inquiries from foreigners in 2024, revealing key concerns ranging from visa issues to business services.

Foshan's 12345 Government Service Convenience Hotline (Mayor’s Direct Line) has reported a notable rise in call volume in 2024, with the total number of calls reaching a record 15.66 million. This represents a 21.64% increase compared to the previous year. Among these, 49 calls came from foreign nationals, making up 0.01% of the total.

2024年,佛山12345政务服务便民热线(市长专线)的呼叫量显著上升,全年总呼叫量达到1566万次,创下历史新高。与上一年相比,呼叫量增长了21.64%。其中,49通电话来自外国人士,占总呼叫量的0.01%。

According to a spokesperson for the Foshan 12345 Hotline, the primary concerns of English-speaking callers were related to visa and documentation issues. Out of the 49 calls received from foreigners last year, 21 (or 42.86%) were related to visa and residency matters. Other common inquiries included service quality, progress updates, and business-related processes, all of which were promptly resolved and documented.

One notable case involved Alex (a pseudonym) and her husband, who have been working in Dali, Nanhai District, Foshan, for over four years. The couple holds work residence permits and has completed their temporary residence registration. In March of the previous year, their child was born in Foshan and received a local birth certificate. However, the child’s passport was not expected to be available until October 2024.

A few days later, Alex was able to access the answer via the hotline’s WeChat public account.

Common inquiries from foreigners contacting the 12345 Hotline often revolve around visa status and work permits. "Can I change my T visa (short-stay visa) to a work visa before it expires?" and "What documents do I need to resolve this issue?" are questions that have been consistently asked over the past seven to eight years. With the number of such inquiries on the rise, the hotline introduced a dedicated English service in January 2019 to assist foreign individuals and businesses with matters related to investment, work, study, tourism, and daily life in Foshan.
