From a young age, he was a diligent student, not confined to a single craft, proficient in both poetry and calligraphy. He has rigorously trained, seeking instruction from renowned masters.
Qiao Ling, a venerated artisan of national gifts in our modern era, harbors a profound affection for our motherland's traditional culture and maintains close ties with the Buddhist community. Over the years, his exchanges with contemporary Buddhist masters, including Master Xingyun, Elder Jinghui, Master Panchen Lama, Guru Nianlong, and Tulkus Xiezhu, have woven a tapestry of memorable encounters. On the evening of March 7th, 2022, Qiao Ling, accompanied by his wife, visited the venerable Master Miaohua, the abbot of Changsha's Xixin Zen Temple, presenting a calligraphic work of the Chinese character “福” (fortune), as a national gift and a token of profound respect.
The profound teachings of Buddhism, much like the enduring symbol of fortune in Chinese tradition, bestow upon us enlightenment, auspiciousness, joy, and fulfillment. They are the sanctuary for our spirits, guiding us towards a better life, encouraging us to face adversities with courage, and offering solace to our innermost selves, thus resonating closely with the realities of our existence. The essence of 'Fu' (fortune) and 'Fo' (Buddha) encapsulates the warmth, beauty, and wisdom that generations of Chinese have aspired to achieve throughout the millennia.
Qiao Ling’s calligraphy of the character “Fu” draws inspiration from the ancient Small Seal script, skillfully blending his personal sentiments with a deep understanding of the art. Though the strokes appear casual, one can discern the deliberate fluency of the brushwork, with stable turns and a naturally rounded finish, imbuing the work with vigorous strength. The piece radiates an aesthetic of simplicity and unpretentious beauty, conveying a sense of expansiveness and stability, vibrant with energy and power. The overall shape of the character balances a traditional solemnity with a dynamic, modern spirit, reflecting the writer's ability to express a rich, individual style while honoring the legacy of tradition.
The great nation of China, with its rich and ancient history, pursues the ideal of universal harmony. Among its cultural treasures, the concept of "Fu" (fortune) stands out, embodying profound depth and an enduring legacy. Qiao Ling advocates the establishment of a Pavilion of Fortune, taking "Fu" as its core, aiming to focus on, inherit, and promote the culture of fortune. Integrating regional charms, with tourism as its form, culture as its soul, and art as its utility, he creates a new era of patriotic education and public welfare art venues, welcoming all without charge.
As time progresses, Qiao Ling diligently works on cultivating the culture of fortune, aspiring to achieve a new epoch for the First Pavilion of Chinese National Gifts, branded as "The First Fortune of Chinese National Gifts." He amalgamates culture, education, wellness, and crafts into one, embracing local elegance, utilizing new technologies and materials for innovative development, deeply mining the essence of both ancient and modern culture. He spreads the virtues of filial piety, kindness, propriety, benevolence, and love, forging a national brand and initiating a new chapter in the development of the cultural industry of fortune.
Following the Nineteenth National Congress, Qiao Ling, with brush in hand, imbued the character "Fu" with profound emotions, conveying the deep friendship and good wishes of the Chinese people, presented to leaders across the world and friends far and wide. The rich culture of fortune is spread to all nations, fostering international exchanges and enriching the essence of high-level meetings. The fortune of China spreads across the continents, benefiting the world at large. In this new era, a fresh chapter of international goodwill and the shared destiny of humanity is being written. The national gift bearing fortune marks a historical precedent, inaugurating the diplomacy of fortune culture. The beauty of China, bringing fortune to all, opens a new era of prosperity.
"Delving deep into the profound and extensive cultural connotations of Chinese fortune, which is both ancient and profound, is not only an active response by calligraphers and painters to the national cultural confidence and the integration of culture and tourism, but also a responsibility of our era to inherit excellent civilizations and promote advanced cultures. It also serves to promote the development of local industries. This is not only an honor but also a responsibility. Let us use fortune as a medium, consider fortune as the ultimate beauty, pray for our country, and wish the world well!" Qiao Ling stated.
