（一）定义

用表示比较的连词连接一个句子，充当另一个句子的比较状语，这个句子就叫做比较状语从句。

常用来连接比较状语从句的连词有：than和as。

（二）than

用于“more...than...”结构，表示“比...更...”，如：

The police say the response has been far better than expected

警方称反应比预期好很多。

In this job, experience counts for more than paper qualifications.

担任这项工作，经验比文凭更重要。

Although he is a 10-year-old boy, he is more intelligent than many people.

虽然他只是十岁男孩，但比许多人更聪明。

（三）as

用于“as...as...”结构，表示“与...一样得...”，如：

Some doubters fear this news may not be as good as it appears.

有些持怀疑态度的人担心这条新闻并非像报道那般美好。

He attacked the food as quickly as decent table manners allowed.

他在不失礼的情况下尽可能快地进餐。

Now my husband can have the volume as loud as he needs and I can have the TV at my hearing level.

现在丈夫可以把音量调到他需要的最大,我也可以把电视音量调到我的听力范围内。

（四）其他比较手段

如：

Most people think that the older you get, the harder it is to learn a new language.

大多数人认为，年龄越大，就越难学一门新的语言。

He is more a writer than a teacher.

与其说他是老师，不如说他是作家。

She is more than a teacher, but like a mother caring for us.

她不仅是我们的老师，她像我们的母亲一样照顾我们。

‘ Villa ’ was something of a misnomer; the place was no more than an old farmhouse.

“别墅”一说有点不妥，那地方只不过是座旧农舍。
