Beijing is home to some colleges and universities, and there are more colleges and universities here than any other city in China.

Most of these higher education institutions are located in the northwestern part of Beijing. Two well-known universities are Peking University, founded in 1898, and Tsinghua University, founded in 1911. Tsinghua University is the most well-known technical and scientific institution in China.
