Embroidery is one of China's traditional folk crafts with a history of at least two to three thousand years. There are four main categories of Chinese embroidery: Su embroidery, Xiang embroidery, Shu embroidery, and Yue embroidery.
Embroidery is one of China's oldest and representative traditional crafts, still widely present in today's life. As everyone knows, embroidery refers to using a needle to pierce silk threads of different fibers and colors into fabric according to a certain pattern, leaving behind embroidered traces. The uses of embroidery mainly include daily life and artistic decoration, such as clothing, bedding, tablecloths, stages, and art decorations.
Each of the four famous embroideries has its own unique themes and styles. Su embroidery's works, including landscapes, insects, fish, and figures, are rich in poetic and artistic sentiment. Xiang embroidery covers a wide range of themes with a bold style. Yue embroidery often features subjects like phoenixes, peonies, pines, and cranes, with vibrant and dazzling colors. Shu embroidery focuses on bright and delicate images, with exquisite and detailed needlework. Shu embroidery has a rich variety of needle techniques, excelling in fine work like embroidering flowers, birds, insects, and fish, as well as depicting majestic landscapes with a grandeur.
